The Gunnedah Veterinary Hospital in conjunction with the Gunnedah Shire Council established the Pound Puppy Adoption Scheme in 2005.  Under this scheme, impounded dogs that are due for euthanasia (ie their owners have not come forward for them) are kept by the Hospital & are then assessed for temperament & suitability.

Once deemed appropriate they are de-sexed, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped & registered with the council before they are sold to loving new homes. Since the inception of this scheme, over 150 dogs have been saved!  We are now in the fortunate position of having a waiting list of people to call for our Pound Puppies meaning that most of them never make it into the paper.  So if you are interested in giving a Pound Puppy a loving home & a new start in life, please leave your details with reception & we will be sure to contact you as soon as a suitable pet comes in.
